Dublin Door Red
The tale is this...Oliver St. John Gogarty, lived next to fellow writer George Moore, in Dublin's Ely Place. Often after enjoying conversation and spirits, the men would become disoriented and find themselves at the other's door, which looked the same. All the row houses had white doors. To stop the confusion, Gogarty painted his door red after his friend Moore painted his door green. Hence, starting a tradition that has become the famous brightly colored "Dublin Doors". |
